To learn all about the history of the traditional irrigation channels.

What is a bisse? It is a low-gradient canal that carries water from streams and rivers to agricultural land, mainly meadows and vineyards, to irrigate them.

The museum traces the history of the bisses through the centuries. It is located in Botyre, along the cantonal road between Anzère and Sion. The 270 m² of exhibition space on four levels offers visitors a real journey through time. Nearly 1,000 documents and hundreds of objects help us to understand why these irrigation channels were a determining factor in the development of the region for so long.

The Valais Bisses Museum offers 270m² of exhibition space, in a historic building dating from the 17th century, which will make you appreciate the decisive role of the bisses in the development of the region.

Thanks to reconstructions, hundreds of objects and over 1000 documents, water management in the Valais will no longer hold any secrets for you! Inside and outside the Museum, an interactive scenography allows children to familiarise themselves with irrigation techniques still used today.
